Mentorship Program Coordinator Interview

Once your application is received a one-on-one interview with Tara Lennox or Steve Hicks will be scheduled.  Additional forms, background check, and any additional questions will be answered.

Embrace believes in Christian Based Community Mentoring . Mentors meet with their mentees for about 8 hours a month to share in fun activities, stories, and a little bit of themselves and a time of prayer. Maybe it’s shooting hoops, playing a board game, sharing a pizza, taking a walk in the park, or just hanging out and talking. What makes our mentorship uniques is that we provide ongoing ministry training to our mentors.  This means that our mentors are equipped to be able to pray for and with their student mentee.  It also means they are open to share the impact their faith has had on their lives. The schedule can be flexible to meet the needs of mentors and their mentee. Some Mentors meet their Student on the weekend or in the evening. Others get together with their Student after school. There’s almost no one so busy that they can’t find a way to fit in a few hours a month to impact the life of a young person.  A few hours  a month can make a HUGE difference in both of your lives.

Researchers found that after 18 months of spending time with a Mentor, the Mentees (students) were:

  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs

  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol

  • 52% less likely to skip school

  • 37% less likely to skip a class

  • more confident of their performance in schoolwork

  • one–third less likely to hit someone

  • getting along better with their families

Mentor volunteers had the greatest impact in the area of alcohol and substance abuse prevention. For every 100 youth between ages 10 and 16 who start using drugs, the study found, only 54 similar youth who are matched with a Mentor will start using drugs. Minority boys and girls were the most strongly influenced; they were 70 percent less likely than their peers to initiate drug use.

The study was funded to track mentorship effectiveness by a $2 million grant from the Lilly Endowment, the Commonwealth Fund, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and an anonymous donor.

We offer ongoing training and support to our mentors (Bible study, group support, follow up dialogue with program coordinator) so that mentors continue to grow in their faith and flourish in their mentor/mentee relationship.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Worship with Youth

At our Worship with Youth Services, certified adult leaders (those who have gone through our mentorship and Biblical training) will have the opportunnity to become breakout session small group leaders. These mentor leaders have the opportunity to mentor between 4-8 teens in their group. They will often be paired with one student leader as well in their breakout small group.
